On 16th November, we were delighted to attend the Nautical Archaeological Society annual conference in Portsmouth We’d been invited to present a talk on the HMS EXMOUTH and the imagery that we’d collected on the dives in 2024.
The theme of the conference was “Bringing the Past to Life” and our work seemed to be a perfect fit for the theme. The aim of our survey work was to show the public the dive site today and for that information to act as a remembrance for the crew of HMS EXMOUTH.
Rich Walker attended the conference and presented a 30-minute talk on the work. He spoke about the history of the ship and the circumstances of her sinking. He went on to present the survey, sketching, photography and 3D photogrammetry results from the dives in 2024.

The conference was very well attended, with young students of archaeology through to some of the most well known academics and explorers in this field. It was a true privilege to present this work alongside presentations about Bronze age trading vessels, Tudor warships as well as more contemporary history,
We were very well received and the discussions after the talk and around the coffee tables were a fascinating networking opportunity.

Good survey work of our historical shipwrecks is such an important part of preserving their memory. We’re very grateful to the NAS for the opportunity to share out work. We’re also able to offer this talk to your club or association. If you’d like to arrange this, then please do contact us using our contact page.
